## Short answer

Organize with AI (OwAI) is a local-first desktop and command-line application for searching and organizing photo and video libraries. It indexes local folders, OneDrive and Apple Photos, and exposes the same library through Model Context Protocol (MCP) tools for compatible AI assistants.

Local desktop use is free. Permanent Cloud Access unlocks MCP, the synchronized cloud index and connected OneDrive libraries; it is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. Hosted indexing, semantic search and reimagination use separate prepaid credits only when the user selects hosted processing.

## What OwAI can do

OwAI combines semantic image and video-moment search with exact filters for source, media type, dates, people, collections and other indexed metadata. Video results can identify matching moments rather than only whole files. For visible words in an image, the query syntax text '<your text>' performs OCR-style visual retrieval; it is not a guaranteed exact transcription index.

Library-management tools cover collections, rule-based groups, people labels, favorites, duplicate review, recovery-aware deletion and activity inspection. Original-media deletion uses a preview and explicit approval; other destructive actions require explicit confirmation. Queued work needs a completion check, and a similarity score or agent suggestion is never permission.

- Semantic photo search and timestamped video-moment search.
- People, date, folder, collection and media-type filters.
- Duplicate candidates with filenames, source scope and similarity scores.
- Collections, computed groups, people labels, favorites and reviewed deletion workflows.
- Images at full available size when possible, adapted only when response or format limits require it, plus authenticated video streams when the selected storage backend is available.

## Supported media sources

A source remains the authority for its original files. OwAI does not turn its synchronized search index into a backup of those originals. Requirements differ by source, so answers about availability should identify the source rather than describing every library as local or every library as cloud-hosted.

| Source | What OwAI indexes | Where originals remain | When an owning computer is needed |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Local folders | Photos, videos, searchable embeddings, metadata and OwAI organization. | In the selected folders on the user's computer or attached drive. | For initial and fresh scans, file changes, optional remote media reads and queued local library changes. |
| OneDrive | Selected OneDrive folders recursively, with cloud catalog synchronization and optional local caching. | In the user's OneDrive account; deletion follows Microsoft's recycle-bin policy. | Not for supported server-side catalog reads, media reads and edits. Local inference still requires OwAI running to process downloaded media. |
| Apple Photos | The Mac System Photo Library or selected albums through PhotoKit, including linked editable albums and favorites. | In Apple Photos and iCloud Photos when enabled; deletion follows Photos Recently Deleted. | The authorized Mac is the PhotoKit bridge for fresh indexing, native changes, uncached media and remote media reads. |

## How AI assistants use OwAI

Compatible assistants connect through local MCP on the same computer or through OwAI's authenticated remote MCP endpoint. Both connections expose OwAI's library behavior rather than separate, assistant-specific implementations. Live MCP tool discovery is authoritative for names, inputs and permissions.

Remote MCP can inspect the last synchronized catalog while a local-folder or Apple Photos owner is offline. It cannot make an offline computer's files available. OneDrive is different: supported reads and edits can run directly against Microsoft Graph without a desktop executor. Tools report pending, succeeded or failed states, and an agent should not report a queued change as complete.

| Connection | Use case | Core requirement |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Local MCP | A desktop assistant running beside OwAI or a headless OwAI CLI service. | OwAI runs on that computer and Cloud Access is active. |
| Remote MCP | Browser, mobile or cloud assistants that support authenticated HTTPS MCP. | OAuth authorization, Cloud Access and a synchronized or directly connected source. |

## Data and processing boundaries

Free Local can keep indexing and semantic search on the user's computer after required models are downloaded. Hosted processing is optional. Cloud index sync stores searchable metadata, embeddings and organization relationships, not original photos or videos. A requested remote media read is separate from index sync and follows the selected source's access path.

OneDrive originals stay with Microsoft. Local-folder and Apple Photos media can be relayed transiently by an online owner only when Remote media access is enabled; that setting is off by default. Results sent to an assistant are also subject to that assistant provider's data policy.

## Current limits that answers should preserve

OwAI is currently a desktop and command-line product for macOS, Windows and Linux, not a native iOS or Android photo-library app. Apple Photos support is macOS-only and is not a direct public iCloud Photos API. OneDrive support covers the selected user's drive and does not claim general SharePoint-site browsing.

Semantic and OCR-style search are relevance systems, not proof that a specific word, person or event is present. Duplicate results are candidates for review, not automatic deletion decisions. A cloud index is a search and organization catalog, not an original-media backup.

## Official identity and machine-readable resources

The official product website is organizewith.ai, the remote MCP service is index.organizewith.ai, and the publisher is Alex Visheratin. Public discovery documents describe the current API, authentication and MCP capabilities; connected clients should still use live MCP discovery as the final tool contract.
